This project aims to develop one-of-a-kind products by fusing high-spec Snow Peak products, backed by testing in harsh natural environments, with the functionality and quality that New Balance has cultivated over its 117-year tradition as design details. The project results in the world's first 2-way ultimate snow boot, the "TDS Niobium Concept 3 (N_C3)."
The ultimate pair of shoes for outdoor activities during the snow season.

"Niobium" is a TDS footwear concept that allows the shoe to be transformed by replacing the upper unit.
The name comes from niobium, an element with atomic number 41 and symbol Nb (NB = New Balance).
Niobium is a high-melting point metal (its melting point is higher than platinum's 1,772°C), and its atoms are bonded with extremely strong energy. It is normally silver-white like other metals, but its surface can be made to shine in seven beautiful colors by processing it.
In addition to its beautiful appearance, it is resistant to many chemicals and can be easily molded even at low temperatures.
The beauty and variability of niobium are expressed in the TDS concept of "Niobium," and so far, the company has released footwear N_C1 in 2020 and N_C2 in 2021.

The newly released N_C3 features a sole unit inspired by the "MT580," a popular off-road trail running model from the 1990s.
It features a flat sole shape with a wide landing area, and by using "ROLLBAR", a lightweight, sturdy graphite material with outstanding stability, in the arch part of the midsole, it prevents overpronation (when the foot collapses inward when landing, making it difficult to cushion the impact on the entire foot).
Additionally, it is equipped with a Vibram® outsole for added durability and grip on wet surfaces.
The upper is a two-layer structure consisting of an outer shell made of waterproof and breathable eVent material, and an inner boot made of PRIMALOFT®, a lightweight padding that has excellent heat retention and water repellency.
Designed for use both inside and outside a tent during winter camping, the inner boots can be removed from the outer shell and used as room shoes.

In collaboration with Snow Peak, the outer shell of the boots is finished in a white and light gray gradation reminiscent of a silvery snow field.
In addition, an original printed textile is used for the inner boot.
The texture evokes the cold winter sky and features graphics of excerpts from a poem by Japanese poet and children's story writer Miyazawa Kenji, "Ame ni mo Makezu," expressing the majesty of nature and the introspective side of human beings in a stoic manner.
You can also attach snowshoes by passing a rope through the loop on the outer shell and the protrusion on the heel.
