New Balance (New Balance) continues its currency-themed collaboration with CNCPTS, a footwear, apparel and accessories retailer.
Following on from the previous work "997 "C-Note", the latest work "CNCPTS × New Balance 1000 "Mile" with a green and white coloring reminiscent of banknotes has been announced.
This model was inspired by the $1,000 bill issued in 1890, commonly known as the "Grand Watermelon Notebook," and incorporated into the design.
The banknote sold at auction in 2014 for $3.29 million, well above the $2 million estimate, making it the most valuable currency in the world.
High-denomination bills are easy targets for crime, and there was actually an incident where a $1,000 bill was stolen at a bank in Chicago.
In order to prevent such crimes, banks began to introduce "dye packs" from the 1960s.
A die pack is placed in a bundle of banknotes, which is activated by a radio signal when the robber escapes, and then explodes and sprays dye.
This will invalidate the banknote and help identify the robber. Reflecting the story of this die pack, the CNCPTS × New Balance 1000 "Mile" expands its currency-themed collection. "Mile" means "thousand" in Irish, and the model name also has that meaning.
"With stories like the 997 C-Note, the $1,000 bill, and the Chicago bank robbery, it was a natural fitting to continue this currency-themed series," said Deon Point, creative director of CNCPTS.
"In addition, the design was perfect for St. Patrick's Day colours, so it was a perfect extension of the 'holiday interpretation' that we have been doing in previous collaborations."
When you open the shoebox, you will feel as if you have found a bundle of banknotes dyed with a die pack.
The design is based on the iconic green color of the Grand Watermelon banknote with hot pink accents reminiscent of the red sticker on the banknote.
The New Balance 1000 was introduced in 1999 and embodies the bold and futuristic design of the time. The upper has been updated with a sleeker and more technical design, reversing the usual mesh and synthetic overlay arrangements.
The sole unit features ABZORB cushioning on the heel and forefoot, and a Stability Web shank on the midfoot.
This year's green color variation is closely tied to St. Patrick's Day.
Chicago has celebrated St. Patrick's Day every year since 1843, and in 1962 the tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green began.
Since then, it has become a world-famous event. This collaboration also pays homage to its cultural background.
The CNCPTS × New Balance 1000 "Mile" is a special combination of culture, history and exclusivity.
